Bulletproof Hip Mobility | Sprinter Steps & Marching Drills for Longevity and Performance

In today's modern world, most of us spend an alarming amount of time seated—at desks, in cars, on the couch. It’s no wonder so many people struggle with tight hips, lower back discomfort, and reduced athletic performance. But our bodies weren’t designed for this static lifestyle. We evolved to stand, walk, run, and move dynamically. And a key player in all of that? Mobile, strong hips.
This tutorial is a simple but powerful progression of sprinter step and marching variations that will help you reclaim your natural movement capacity—building hip flexor strength, improving both hip flexion and extension, and leveling up your athleticism.
Hip Mobility Progressions
Let’s dive into the drills—simple to start, but deceptively effective.
Hands on a wall, neutral spine.
Lift one knee high while squeezing the opposite glute and extending fully through the hip.
Alternate legs, avoid spinal arch or collapse.
Progression: Add a resistance band for load.
Lay back on a box, no gap under your lower back.
One hand behind the head, the other holding your knee toward the chest.
Flex and extend the free leg, keeping it aligned with your hip and shoulder.
Feel a deep stretch at the bottom, then contract to lift.
Progression: Hook a kettlebell by the toes for added resistance.
Similar setup to the march, but with a forward lean and band pulling from behind.
Use a stick or object for balance.
Core braced, spine neutral, drive the working leg forward and up.
Emphasize powerful hip extension and control on both sides.
Progression: Use a cable machine with an ankle cuff to increase load.
